Chillies and capsicums are the juiceless dried pods (fruits) of plants of the genus Capsicum, particularly Capsicum annum, C. frutescens, C. chinese, C. pubescens, C. pendulum. In longitudinal cross-section, the pods are roughly triangular in shape, with the base of the triangle at the point of attachment to the peduncle (stalk). The pods contain variable numbers of yellow-white, hard, disc-like seeds, 1 to 5 mm in diameter.
