Policies of Countries Supplying Assistance
Commonwealth countries supply over three quarters of their total assistance through bilateral programmes, though they are providing increasing support to both Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth aid institutions. Their roles have varied between donors or recipients or both, and the institutions and programmes in which they participate include such global organisations as the World Bank and the various UN agencies as well as exclusively Commonwealth programmes such as the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation (CFTC) and the Special Commonwealth African Assistance Programme (SCAAP). In addition, Commonwealth countries participate in various regional bodies and programmes e.g. the Colombo Plan and the regional banks.
