Preface

The growth in the consumption of plant-based medicines and health foods is a worldwide phenomenon. It has resulted in the rapid growth in trade in hundreds of wild crafted and cultivated medicinal plants and the development of a sophisticated botanical extraction industry. The Commonwealth's share in trade in medicinal herbs and extracts is still small, despite the fact that most member states have a strong herbal medicine tradition.
