A Survey of Abortion Laws in Commonwealth Countries

Legal provisions have not kept pace with medical advances in the field of prevention of unwanted pregnancy. Accordingly, the Fourth Commonwealth Medical Conference (1974) recommended that the Commonwealth Secretariat collect information on laws on Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP). The Commonwealth Secretariat circulated a questionnaire to the 36 Commonwealth Member countries and to all associated states and dependencies to indentify their laws and intentions concerning MTP.
