Political Background
Nigeria is a Federal Republic consisting of 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja. The President is the Head of State, the Chief Executive of the Federation and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He or she is also the Head of Government and appoints Ministers. The President is elected for a four-year mandate and can serve a maximum of two terms in office.
