The role and importance of agriculture, even in many of the highly industrialized countries of the world, is almost universally recognized. In most of the developing countries, its place and importance in the life, progress and future prosperity of their peoples is unique. The vast majority of these people live in rural areas deriving their livelihood from the cultivation of crops and the keeping of livestock.
