Part I: Education and Training for Agricultural Development

Rural development involves the mobilisation and development of the whole range of resources in rural areas within the broader context of national, economic, social, cultural and political advancement, to the ultimate end of improving human living standards. Since agriculture will be for many years to come the basic occupation of the vast majority of the population in developing countries, the improvement of agricultural productivity merits a high priority in national economic planning. The improvement of agriculture, however, is not simply a matter of grafting science and technology on to existing systems of land use.
