Positive Discrimination in Education for India's Scheduled Castes: a Review of the Problems 1950-1970

Scheduled castes and tribes comprise nearly 20% of India's population of 470 million. Traditionally they have been outside the social and caste system with access to very little of the benefits and security provided by the institutionalised religion. In 1950 when the Constitution of India was promulgated special guarantees were worked in to effect social justice to this sector of the population.
