General Considerations

“Local production” and “improvisation” are not synonymous with one another, although they are often used in the same context. Teachers can readily improvise, using local materials, for their own requirements, and they are increasingly being encouraged to do so during their pre-service training. Local production, which implies a sophistication over and above local improvisation, is related to producing apparatus for the heeds of the whole school system rather than for the needs of the individual school.
