The Major Export Crops

Coffee dominates the present economy of Uganda and has done so, albeit to a lesser degree, since the early 1960s. Coffee's contribution to foreign exchange earnings had risen from around 50%, overtaking cotton in the early 1960s, to 58% by 1970. With the collapse of other exports such as cotton, tea and copper the proportion had risen to no less than 93% in 1977.
