Aspirations and Developments

In the post-war period, national and international efforts to accelerate the development of the poor countries have not been without some success. As a result, a number of developing countries have emerged as middle-income countries, some because of favourable resource endowments and others because of special efforts to transform their economies and become significant exporters of manufactured goods. In recent years significant progress has also been made in food production and distribution in some large low-income countries in South Asia.
