The WTO Dispute Settlement System is one of the most effective mechanisms of inter-state dispute settlement that exists today under international law. A reflection of its success has been its use by states to resolve a large number of disputes. This rich experience has, however, highlighted a number of difficulties that require attention to increase the efficacy and fairness of the system.
